KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry has informed that the spoiled batch of locally produced Prego Carbonara Mushroom Pasta Sauce (665g) is being recalled from stores in Malaysia.
This comes after multinational food manufacturer The Arnott’s Group (TAG) yesterday recalled the product from store shelves in Singapore.
In a statement today, health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah confirmed that the Food Safety and Quality Division had received a notification from Campbell Cheong Chan (M) Sdn Bhd confirming that the product is also being sold in Malaysia.
“The company has identified that the cause behind the product’s spoilage is due to mistakes during the processing stage and is in the process of voluntarily recalling the affected product from the market,” he said.
He affirmed that the spoiled batch of products was produced on August 17, 2022, with an expiry date of August 17, 2023, with the impacted time code being between 10.18pm and 11.20pm stamped on the cap.
He said that the ministry remains on alert for matters which could affect the people’s health.
Dr Noor Hisham also advised buyers who have purchased the product to avoid consuming it, and urged those who might have already done so to meet a medical professional if they experience food poisoning symptoms.
Yesterday, TAG informed the Singapore Food Agency that the affected batch may exhibit signs of spoilage including an unpleasant smell, unusual colour, watery appearance and separated layers of liquid.
TAG is the maker of Australian and local brands such as Arnott’s, Prego, and Kimball.
