KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry is expected to announce Covid-19 restrictions on inbound travellers from China today, the media reported.

New Straits Times said Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa had met with top ministry officials and will likely announce measures today, while The Star quoted a source saying that Malaysia might impose pre-departure Covid-19 testing on those arriving from China.

China’s recent move to end its zero-Covid-19 policy and allow its citizens to travel abroad has sparked both joy from depressed economies as well as caution due to widespread infections in the country.

Several countries such as the United States, Italy, Japan, Taiwan and India have begun imposing mandatory testing for arrivals from China.

China is also easing entry into its borders, starting January 8, when travellers no longer need to apply for a pre-departure health code nor undergo testing and quarantine upon arrival.

Arrivals only need to show a negative pre-departure PCR test result 48 hours prior to entry. – The Vibes, December 30, 2022
