KUALA LUMPUR – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has ordered the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) to investigate claims by a Malaysian couple left stranded in Melbourne for four days after local air carrier AirAsia X delayed their flight.

This was in response to a complaint by Twitter user @NazFarid who expressed his frustration with the carrier after their original return flight from Melbourne on January 2 was delayed to today.

“I take note of your complaint. I will ask AirAsia X’s management to apologise to all affected passengers. Mavcom will investigate the case,” said Loke.

In a Twitter thread, @NazFarid recalled that he had tried to reach out to AirAsiaX about the delay but had not received any response.

Subsequently, the Twitter user also lodged a report with Mavcom on the matter as he and his wife had incurred skyrocketing costs due to the delay.

“It was five days of expenses considering our flight was supposed to be at 7am in the morning on January 2.

“Our expenses have skyrocketed since it was last minute to book a hotel.

“I even withdrew my ASB (Amanah Saham Bumiputera), and funnily enough the money was floating because of public holidays,” he said.

Coming out of the pandemic era, AirAsia has resumed normal flight operations.

However, the local flight carrier has also suffered typical flight challenges such as delays, cancellations, and overbookings. – The Vibes, January 6, 2023
