KOTA KINABALU – Warisan, Barisan Nasional (BN), and KDM assemblymen were visibly absent at the special Sabah assembly sitting here today, suggesting that the political crisis is still ongoing in the state.

Only the five BN assemblymen who went against the grain attended the sitting which saw the assembly passing a bill to establish the state’s energy commission.

Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, in a statement early this morning, said that all assemblymen from the party fully supported the Energy Commission Bill 2023 and the 2023 Gas Supply Bill.

Warisan has 19 assemblymen while BN (Umno) has 12 assemblymen, excluding the five who revolted. KDM has three assemblymen.

The BN five who revolted are Datuk Shahelmey Yahya (Tanjung Keramat), Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob (Sindumin), Datuk Jasnih Daya (Pantai Dalit), Datuk Mohd Arsad Bistari (Tempasuk) and Datuk James Ratib (Sugut).

It could not be ascertained whether the three parties (Warisan, Umno, KDM) decided to boycott the sitting today.

Meanwhile, the assembly sitting arrangements were also changed, with the BN and Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) reps being moved to the opposition side of the hall.

Sabah found itself in a political crisis after BN ended its cooperation with GRS as Datuk Bung Moktar Radin accused Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor of not keeping his promises. Meanwhile, Warisan and KDM had questioned the legitimacy of Hajiji as chief minister. – The Vibes, January 10, 2023
