KUALA LUMPUR – The speed limit on federal roads nationwide is lowered by 10kph – from 90kph to 80kph – between January 18 and 27 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year break.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this is part of the government’s move to mitigate the risk of road accidents during festive seasons.

“The Works Ministry will be working with the Transport Ministry and other agencies such as the Road Transport Department, Public Works Department, Malaysian Highway Authority and PLUS Malaysia on the road safety operation,” he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani.

Nanta and Transport Minister Anthony Loke are at the launch of a road safety programme at the highway rest area in Dengkil.

Nanta added that the Public Works Department will be monitoring the 76 “black spots” where many accidents have been recorded.

Of the total, 53 “black spots” involving federal roads have been repaired, costing RM17.2 million. – The Vibes, January 17, 2023
