KUALA LUMPUR – PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the Chinese community has always been a part of his life.

“My grandfather had many adopted children who were Chinese, regardless whether they embraced Islam or not,” said Hadi.

The Marang MP shared some pictures of his family dressed in all red for the Chinese New Year celebration yesterday on his Facebook page.

“During the Second World War, there were non-Muslim Chinese refugees who escaped and entered the east coast.

“My grandfather, who was the village head at the time, saved them and hid them in his farm,” Hadi explained.

He also stated that his daughter-in-law being Chinese proves that his family’s relations with the community is not new.

“After the Chinese New Year celebration together with Perikatan Nasional and Gerakan earlier this morning, I immediately went home to Kg Rusila to celebrate with my family,” Hadi said.

Wishing everyone a happy Chinese New Year, he also expressed his hope that the festivities will be a way to enhance bonds and strengthen unity among the multi-racial and multi-religious communities in Malaysia. – The Vibes, January 23, 2023
