KUALA LUMPUR – In a first for a Malaysian actor, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh today received an Academy Awards nomination for her role in the highly acclaimed sci-fi film, Everything Everywhere All at Once. 

The Ipoh-born starlet, 61, is now in the running for Best Actress for her role as Evelyn Quan. 

Everything Everywhere All at Once has garnered 11 nominations, placing it on top of the list. 

Yeoh’s contenders for the category are Cate Blanchett (TÁR), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans), Ana De Armas (Blonde), and Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie).

At the 80th Golden Globe Awards earlier this month, Yeoh snagged the Best Actress In A Musical Or Comedy Motion Picture category, making her the first Malaysian to do so.

Nominations for the 95th Academy Awards were announced early this morning by actors Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams for all categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original and Adapted Screenplay.

Both had also announced nominees for actors and actresses in lead and supporting roles, Best Song and Score, as well as craft categories like Cinematography, Production Design, Sound, Film Editing and Visual Effects.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ nominations announcement took place in person, in front of an audience filled with members of the press and publicists for the first time ever since 2016, at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre.

Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the 2023 Oscars. This will be his third time emceeing at the awards show which will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre, Ovation Hollywood.
