KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a continuous heavy rain warning for southern Pahang and most areas of Johor today.
Negri Sembilan and Melaka also face similar weather conditions, the department said in a video on Twitter.
The heavy rainfall prediction is categorised as “dangerous” for Johor, and the department cautioned those living in low-lying and flood-prone hotspots to be on alert.
Johor is currently experiencing floods following rainy weather over the Chinese New Year, with water levels rising since yesterday in several districts, and close to 4,000 people evacuated as of this afternoon.
For the west coasts of both the peninsula and Sarawak, the department predicted thunderstorms and heavy rain from this afternoon till tonight.
“This continuous rain warning for these areas are for the whole day today, and people living in these places should be on alert,” the department said.
In Sabah, rainstorms are predicted in Sandakan and Kudat from tonight until tomorrow morning, with both these areas placed under the “dangerous” category. – The Vibes, January 25, 2023.
