PANDAN INDAH – The government should avoid moves which could be perceived as nepotistic practices in the future, advised PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.
Labelling nepotism as “something that should be abstained from by any government,” Rafizi said that he commiserates with those who are against appointments ostensibly fueled by the practice.
“I understand why people do not support such appointments. This is the people’s view and we respect that,” he told reporters after an event here today.
Rafizi, who is also economy minister, was commenting on the appointment of party vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar as a senior economic and financial adviser to her father, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He also mentioned the appointment of Muhammad Iqbal Johari as a special functions officer to his father, Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Johari Abdul.
“This (nepotism) is something that should be avoided by any government, but in the case of Nurul Izzah and Iqbal, their appointments have already been made without involving citizen’s money,” he told reporters after an event here last night.
He added that the duo now bear the burden of proving themselves worthy of their titles.
“Nurul Izzah and Iqbal must show that they bring additional values to the table.
“I’m sure that they have their own roles to play,” he said, adding that PKR is hoping to “move on” from the nepotism allegations surrounding the appointments. – The Vibes, February 5, 2023
