KUALA LUMPUR – Budget 2023 will see a special unit set up under the Royal Malaysian Police’s Sexual, Women, and Child Investigations Division (D11) to combat the rampant spread of child pornography.

In tabling the revised budget in Parliament today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the government is dedicated to ensuring the safety of women and children, with crimes against the communities causing much concern.

“RMP’S D11 will be taking more aggressive action in investigating sexual crimes against women and children.

“Some of its plans include establishing a special unit under the division to counter (the spread of) child pornography while working with various agencies to identify culprits,” Anwar, who is also finance minister, said.

Besides that, he said RM8,000 will be allocated to strengthen the role of local social support centres as shelters against mental health and domestic violence issues.

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will also be establishing a Child Development Department under the Social Welfare Department to provide more comprehensive assistance to children. – The Vibes, February 24, 2023
