KUALA LUMPUR – Certain government-linked entities with similar roles and functions may be consolidated as part of institutional reforms to ensure effective delivery of government services, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
“The consolidation of government agencies with similar functions will ensure more effective service as per their mandate,” he said when tabling Budget 2023 in Parliament today.
“As an example, the government suggests the restructuring of institutions that strengthen Bumiputera investment holdings by combining Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputera, Yayasan Amanah Hartanah Bumiputera, as well as Yayasan Ejuti Nasional,” said Anwar, who is also finance minister.
The proposed restructuring and consolidation will include separate remuneration schemes for these bodies.
Anwar also said there is a need to restructure government agencies that manage start-ups and innovations to ensure efficiency in developing these companies for eventual listing on Bursa Malaysia.
Similarly, the Tambun MP also said subsidiaries of government agencies – such as Tabung Haji, Felda, and Felcra – that are not profitable or operating in line with their mandates could be shuttered.
Such subsidiaries are those running tour agency operations and security or IT services.
“Government agencies especially Tabung Haji, Felda, and Felcra should return to their prime function and the tasks they were established for,” Anwar said. – The Vibes, February 24, 2023
