KUALA LUMPUR – Corporate figure Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din has been formally appointed as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) new chairman.

As announced in an Instagram post by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil today, Salim will serve a two-year term beginning from March 1.

Salim had previously served under the MCMC’s board of directors and was the government agency’s interim chairman from June last year to January this year.

“I believe his appointment will help to overcome communication infrastructure issues, including for the 3% of the population who still do not have access to the internet, to overcome the digital divide and drive Malaysia towards a ‘golden digital decade’,” Fahmi said.

Prior to his current appointment, the 64-year-old was also a member of the consultation and corruption prevention panel under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, as well as the executive vice-chairman of Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB).

Reportedly, he was also the founder and group managing director of Gapurna Sdn Bhd prior to his stint in MRCB, having held non-executive chairmanships at Giant Malaysia and British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Bhd, as well as having chaired the Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council. – The Vibes, February 28, 2023
