KUALA LUMPUR – The 30GB Unity internet access prepaid package is now available to Malaysians for RM30, which is valid for six months, said Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He added that those who sign up for the package will enjoy speeds of up to 3Mbps.

“This package is aimed to help provide affordable internet access to the youth, B40 group, army veterans, retired police and marine officers, the disabled and senior citizens,” he said during the launch event at Desa Rejang here today.

The package is available today onwards from CelcomDigi, Maxis, UMobile, Telekom Malaysia and YTL Communications, as well as outlets selling mobile packages.

In his speech, Fahmi said the collaboration is for two years and it is up to the telcos if they want to continue offering the package.

He added that easy internet access is no longer a luxury but a necessity similar to water supply and electricity.

“Having easy internet access will help the target groups to take advantage of digital platforms and opportunities in the digital economy to improve their socioeconomic status, as well as assist in building Malaysia’s digital economy.”

On December 21, Fahmi teased a prepaid mobile data plan that would offer 30GB for RM30 over a period of six months.

Meanwhile, all local telecommunications providers have been given the mandate to offer affordable packages for 5G services.

Fahmi said this is to meet the target of up to 80% coverage of populated areas by year-end.

He added that his ministry has been instructed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to aggressively address issues related to 5G.

“The prime minister told me to quickly resolve the 5G issues. We want to achieve 80% coverage for populated areas.

“So now it is up to all telecommunications companies to offer reasonable prices (to consumers).” – The Vibes, February 28, 2023
