KOTA KINABALU – Warisan will not be surprised if Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) decides to swing its support should a political crisis arise and risks the fall of the unity government, said party information chief Datuk Azis Jamman.
Azis said history shows that the leaders in Gagasan Rakyat, the latest party to have joined GRS, have done this before.
“Believe or not, the next crisis at the federal level, be assured that Gagasan Rakyat or GRS will again be the first to abandon Tambun (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) as they left (Bersatu president) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and also former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he said here today.
Gagasan Rakyat is led by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor.
Hajiji led a group of assemblymen to abandon Umno in December 2018 before joining Bersatu in April 2019, when the party spread its wings to Sabah.
He then left Bersatu in December last year in favour of Anwar and the formation of the unity government mooted by the Agong.
He then took over Gagasan Rakyat, a local party along with 14 assemblymen.
Azis also took a swipe at a report that over 1,500 of Warisan members have exited the party to support GRS, saying the numbers had been overstated.
Azis said Warisan is not denying there are members who left the party, but they decided to do this to “cari makan” (feed themselves).
Earlier, Hajiji said they welcomed any assemblymen to join Gagasan Rakyat, referring to several Umno and Warisan assemblymen who joined his party.
“We have received their applications. It is their right to decide their political future.
“For me, we welcome them joining the party because we want to focus on a solid unity,” he told the press here today.
Hajiji was met after having a dialogue with Sabah youth groups here today.
