KOTA KINABALU – Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded Umno members not to elect party leaders who threaten the stability of the unity government.

The Umno president said he hopes party members will vote for candidates who want to help the party and those who want to strengthen Umno in the upcoming elections in six states.

The deputy prime minister said the members should also elect those close to the leadership to continue to strengthen Umno and defend the current government.

“We don’t want the leaders who want to move to threaten the current government and who are supposedly trying to bring Umno to support other coalitions en bloc.

“I think these candidates do not share the same thinking as the mainstream Umno,” he said during the unveiling of the Umno party election candidates here tonight.

Asked by reporters whether there were currently quarters attempting to work with rival parties, Zahid confirmed the matter.

On another note, Zahid also said he endorsed Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin as part of Umno’s top leadership.

Bung, who also won his Kinabatangan division chief post uncontested, is vying for a seat as an Umno supreme council member.

“Sabah Umno has faced many obstacles whether it’s from within or outside the party. But I am confident that Sabah Umno will continue to remain relevant under the leadership of Bung,” he said.

The party wings’ and division election process will take place on March 11, while top leadership ballots will commence on March 18. – The Vibes, March 8, 2023
