KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) has appointed Farah Nini Dusuki as its children’s commissioner for a three-year tenure, effective March 8.

In a statement, law minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said highlighted that Farah, a senior lecturer at the Universiti Malaya (UM) law faculty since 2007, has more than three decades of experience in child-related human rights and legal matters under her belt.

Prior to serving at UM, she taught at the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws at the International Islamic University Malaysia for 15 years.

Farah is a PhD holder from Cardiff University, Wales in 2002. Her thesis centred on socio-legal problems plaguing efforts to protect children from abuse and neglect.

Her research areas span criminal justice, child law, youth protection in relation to sexual reproduction and health, and the enforcement of children’s rights in Malaysia.

“The government hopes that with Farah Nini Dusuki’s appointment as (Suhakam’s) children’s commissioner, the plethora of children’s issues in Malaysia will be given greater attention to ensure the preservation of children’s rights, safety and wellbeing in this country,” said Azalina. – The Vibes, March 10, 2023
