KUALA LUMPUR – E-hailing service Maxim Malaysia today said it has always ensured the safety of its passengers and its driver-partners during its rides.

In a statement, Maxim Malaysia said it also advises all driver-partners to maintain their e-hailing insurance and to ensure their vehicle registration period is not over 10 years old.

“They are also required to provide complete documents for Maxim Malaysia to obtain E-hailing Vehicle Permits (EVPs) for its partner-drivers,” read the statement.

The Vibes reported yesterday that an e-hailing operator (EHO) in charge of the Maxim app was raided by the Road Transport Department (RTD) for operating without a valid EVP.

The department said the company operating in Kuantan, Pahang was raided as part of its Op E-hailing intelligence gathering and monitoring efforts, which revealed that Maxim had violated transportation guidelines.

In a statement, the department said that by allowing vehicles operated by the company to be used without valid permits, Maxim had gone against Section 12A(5) of the Land Public Transportation Act (LPTA) 2010.

If convicted for crimes under the section, offenders face a fine of between RM1,000 and RM500,000, or a jail term of up to two years.

“During the investigation at our Kuantan office, the employees of Maxim Malaysia gave their full cooperation to the RTD officers, providing all the supporting documents, valid e-hailing licences from APAD, driver’s list and advertising materials used for marketing campaigns,” said Maxim Malaysia.

It said currently, there are over a thousand drivers from Maxim Malaysia with complete documents ready to obtain EVPs.

“This for sure shows the intention that Maxim Malaysia is obedient towards the existing e-hailing laws provided by the Transport Ministry.

“Maxim Malaysia, at all times, informs and reminds our partner-drivers about the importance of EVPs.

“For our partner-drivers’ welfare, Maxim Malaysia reimburses the cost of PSV so our partner-drivers are not financially burdened.”

Maxim Malaysia said the whole e-hailing industry has been severely financially impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Driving schools were also closed, which caused huge congestion for PSV courses, and partner-drivers had to wait for a long period of time to obtain PSVs.

Maxim is an international mobile application, serving as many as 18 countries all around the world.

“An organisation of such stature always puts utmost effort to maintain its standards and reputation, and upholds users’ safety and security as its top priority,” it added. – The Vibes, March 11, 2023
