KUALA LUMPUR – Three ministries will work together to implement the open payment system on all highways in the country, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

He said the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry would hold engagement sessions with the works and transport ministries to expand the open payment system to the North-South Expressway as a start.

“I was informed that many (industry) players are ready to offer this system, so highway users can choose the system they want (in the future).

“Engagement sessions (between the three ministries) are ongoing, especially with the Malaysian Highway Authority, so that all highways will use the open system,” he told a press conference after launching the Jualan Rahmah Hari Raya 99 Speedmart here today.

On Tuesday, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that motorists would be allowed to pay tolls using credit or debit cards on five highways by September.

The highways are the Sg Besi Expressway, New Pantai Expressway, Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, and Penang Bridge.

Meanwhile, Salahuddin said the Jualan Rahmah Hari Raya campaign under the Payung Rahmah initiative would run for a month starting today until April 22 at 2,300 99 Speedmart branches nationwide.

The sale offers 150 various basic goods at discounts of up to 40%, he added. – Bernama, March, 2023
