KOTA KINABALU – The Kota Kinabalu International Airport’s (KKIA) air conditioning problem will be fixed completely by next week, said Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin.

Chan said that he was informed by KKIA senior manager Jeffrey Ramli during his inspection at the airport today that KKIA has four chillers, but currently only one is working.

The federal deputy agriculture and food security minister said Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad had taken a short-term measure by putting up 47 coolers around KKIA.

“KKIA has four chillers, two have been out of commission since last year, but the repair and purchasing of spare parts had been put off.

“As a result, only two chillers were left to sustain the cooling system for the entire airport. It was fine back then due to the low passenger rate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“However, since last week, one of the two remaining chillers had broken down. With the lifting of travel restrictions and return of travellers using the airport, the entire airport is getting hotter and hotter now,” Chan said in his Facebook post today.

He said with repairs on all four chillers in KKIA expected to be completed by next week, he hopes that such a problem will not repeat.

“Even though airport affairs is not under my agriculture portfolio, I am nevertheless very concerned about the condition of the airport located next to my constituency.

“It is always important to properly maintain the airport services to give a good first impression of Kota Kinabalu to visitors,” he added. –The Vibes, March 26, 2023.
