POLICE yesterday arrested two men who tried to enter Istana Negara with a machete in their car.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said police stopped the duo who had tried to enter the palace compound on Jalan Sultan Abdul Halim via Gate 3 around 4.40pm.
“The men told the police officers on duty that they wanted to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said.
Further checks on the vehicle led to the discovery of a machete.
“Police then detained the duo, aged 29 and 37 years-old. Both men have been remanded until May 21 for further investigation,” he said.
Urine tests showed that both suspects tested negative for drugs.
Rusdi also urged all parties to not speculate on the matter, or to spread fake information.
The case is being investigated for criminal trespass and possession of an offensive weapon.
In September last year, a 39-year-old roti canai seller was sentenced to a month in jail and fined RM500 for trespassing into Istana Negara.
Amrin Amiruddin was also fined RM500 in default two weeks in jail by the magistrates’ court after he pleaded guilty to the offence. – May 18, 2024
