JASIN – Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday confirmed Paya Rumput assemblyman Datuk Rais Yasin remains as head of the Tangga Batu Umno division.

He said the matter was confirmed by Umno elections committee chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad yesterday.

“I would like to confirm that the chairman of the Umno elections committee has informed me (that there is no cancellation letter) and Datuk Rais has been confirmed as head of the Tangga Batu Umno division,” he told reporters at the Ramadan Charity Ceremony at the Ar-Rahman Mosque, Kg Pulai, Serkam here last night.

Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said this when asked to comment on a viral letter dated March 27 that claimed Rais’ victory as Tangga Batu Umno head was annulled.

Tangga Batu Umno division secretary Datuk Abdul Latip Mohamad was reported to have said that he received notification about Rais’ victory being cancelled through a letter from central Umno received via WhatsApp at 2.26pm yesterday afternoon.

Latip said the letter declared that irregularity took place during the meeting in the Umno election process of that division which took place in a hotel recently. – Bernama, March 28, 2023
