Fresh appointees comprise eight from Barisan Nasional, two from Pakatan Harapan

MELAKA – Ten Melaka deputy executive councillors (excos) were named late last night, with two from Pakatan Harapan and eight from Barisan Nasional.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, when announcing the 10 names after a state government meeting, said eight are new faces while the other two are former excos.

At a press conference after the meeting, he said that Rim representative Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar was appointed deputy exco for economic planning, finance, land affairs, non-government agencies, investment, industry, and development of technical and vocational education and training.

Taboh Naning assemblyman Zulkiflee Mohd Zin was appointed senior deputy exco for housing, local government, drainage, climate change, and disaster management, while Serkam assemblyman Datuk Zaidi Attan was named deputy exco for tourism, heritage, arts, and culture.

Also appointed were Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong (rural development, agriculture, and food security), and Duyong assemblyman Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halim (science, technology, innovation, and digital communication).

In addition, Bandar Hilir representative Leng Chau Yen was appointed deputy exco for women, family, and community development, while Sg Rambai assemblyman Siti Faizah Abdul Azis was named deputy exco for health, human resources, and unity.

Durian Tunggal assemblyman Zahari Abd Khalil was appointed deputy exco for infrastructure, public facilities, and transport, while Kuala Linggi assemblyman Rosli Abdullah was named deputy exco for education, higher education, and religious affairs.

Pantai Kundor representative Tuminah Kadi @ Mohd Hashim was named deputy exco for cooperatives, entrepreneur development, and consumer affairs.

“As for the youth, sports, and non-governmental organisations portfolio, we have not yet decided, as we are still waiting for the decision of those whom we contacted,” said Rauf.

He also said that the post of deputy assembly speaker would be decided later following the incumbent Khaidhirah’s appointment as deputy exco. – Bernama, April 7, 2023
