PUTRAJAYA – Shariah Appeal Court judge Datuk Mohd Amran Mat Zain has been appointed Shariah Judiciary Department director-general and shariah chief judge effective today. 

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said Mohd Amran, who joined the civil service in 1994, has 29 years of experience in the shariah officer service scheme. 

“Based on his vast experience and qualifications, the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) is confident that he would be able to take on the responsibility of continuing the department’s excellence,” he said in a statement. 

Amran started as a shariah officer at the Federal Territory Legal Aid Bureau and has served as a registrar at the Shariah Judiciary Department as well as a Federal Territory of Putrajaya shariah subordinate court judge. 

He holds a Master of Laws from International Islamic University Malaysia and a Bachelor of Shariah from Universiti Malaya. – Bernama, March 10, 2023
