SG PETANI – The Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) expect to resolve the distribution of seats for the coming state election after the Aidilfitri celebration.

State Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said discussions would start soon.

“We are having ‘ice breaking’ among BN and PH leaders at the divisional level, where they sit together at the same table and see what our preparations are like and then decide on who will contest where,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Earlier, he attended the 2023 unity roundtable conference which was attended by the BN and PH leaders at the state and divisional levels.

It was held to get the leaders to know each other and to strengthen cooperation in preparation for the state election.

Meanwhile, Kedah PH chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar said he hoped the distribution of seats could be resolved before the Kedah unity convention to be held on May 20.

He said following the round table conference, BN and PH will form a unity leadership council at the parliamentary or divisional level to determine the course of action to face the state election.

Mahfuz said after the distribution of seats had been resolved, BN and PH will decide on a menteri besar candidate to be used as a “poster boy” for the election.

“The MB candidate will be discussed after we have settled the distribution of seats,” he said. – Bernama, April 18, 2023
