KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia still welcomes Coldplay to perform here and PAS can skip the British rock group’s concert, Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming was reported saying today.

Such events are welcomed, not just for the performances, but to boost the economy, Free Malaysia Today quoted him as saying.

As for PAS, the Perikatan Nasional component should just refrain from attending instead of stopping Coldplay fans from doing so, says Nga.

“If PAS does not like Coldplay, then simple, don’t buy their concert tickets,” Nga said at his ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri event in Putrajaya today.

He also said other global performers are welcomed here “because it’s not just about the performances, but such acts can help spur economic growth”.

Nga's remarks come after PAS central working committee member Nasrudin Hassan advised the government to cancel Coldplay’s concert, scheduled for November 22 at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Nasrudin, a former parliamentarian, said Coldplay’s concert would promote “hedonistic and deviant values”.
