KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been instructed to take action over the social media ads on the resale of Coldplay’s concert tickets, said Fahmi Fadzil.
The communications and digital minister also advised the public to purchase Coldplay concert tickets from legitimate sources as to avoid falling victim to scams, reported Bernama.
He added that the government will take action against scammers and that this issue is being taken seriously.
“Those who bought tickets and didn’t get them should lodge police reports so action can be taken against them (scammers),” he was quoted as saying after a programme at his ministry in Putrajaya.
Many accounts purporting to sell Coldplay concert tickets on several social media platforms have gone viral, after being said to be operated by scammers.

Last night, Fahmi tweeted that a Coldplay CAT1 resale ticket priced at RM43,200 is excessive, adding that ticket prices are under the purview of the Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry.
“God willing, I will bring this up with Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.”
Coldplay, who are scheduled to perform at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on November 22, saw tickets sold out within hours, and fans were left fuming when scalpers started selling their seats on social media and reselling platforms such as Viagogo.
Checks by The Vibes on Viagogo at 3.47pm yesterday found 110 tickets available for purchase.
In fact, tickets for the CAT6 category, which went on sale on Live Nation Malaysia’s platform for RM398, were being resold on Viagogo for a whopping RM1,750.
On its Twitter page, after announcing that the concert had sold out, Live Nation Malaysia received a slew of complaints from netizens over the poor functioning of their ticketing purchasing platform.
However, moments later, netizens took it upon themselves to ask for an additional show by Coldplay.
They started a petition for the British rock band to perform another night. The petition on petitions.net has already garnered 7,534 signatures as of 9pm yesterday. – The Vibes, May 18, 2023
