GEORGE TOWN – The family of Australian woman Annapuranee Jenkins has filed a revision to the open verdict rendered by the coroner court, reiterating claims about discrepancies in the investigation into her disappearance and death.
Her son Greg Steven Jenkins said the family felt compelled to file a revision with the Penang High Court through their new family lawyer David Dev Peter.
On May 12, coroner Norsalha Hamzah said the lengthy inquest failed to establish a conclusive outcome to the case, leaving her to reach such a decision.
In the notice, David, who is part of the Jerald Gomez & Associates firm, brought up the case’s similarities to the death of Dutch model Ivana Smit, saying that her family had successfully overturned the coroner court’s conclusion, from a misadventure to the involvement of persons known or unknown.
Annapuranee disappeared along Scotland Road in 2017 and despite the efforts of her family, including her son, she was never found.
Some three years later during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Annapuranee’s partial skeletal remains and some personal belongings were found at a construction site next to the Penang Turf Club, some 3km from Scotland Road.
Greg and his sister Jennifer are convinced that their mother was a victim of foul play.
During the inquest proceedings, various allegations were made by police, including the 65-year-old Annapuranee being involved in drug trafficking and a family feud.
Greg has denied such claims, stating that his mother was just an average housewife who was caring and pious.
South Australian Senate member Frank Pangallo, who has been assisting the family in their quest to find justice, labelled the verdict a farce because the court allegedly ignored gaps in the investigation and during the search for the remains.
He too has called for a revision to the verdict and for police to consider working with their Australian counterparts to find out what transpired in the case.
He has brought Annapuranee’s case to the Australian Senate for deliberations while the family has also met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, who is the Adelaide MP, to discuss the matter. – The Vibes, May 29, 2023
