KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is displeased with the action of a social media user who shared a disrespectful tweet regarding the health of PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

In a post on Twitter, Anwar directed the user in question, Zaki Yamani, to apologise for his post.

“I strongly object to and am displeased with Zaki Yamani’s disrespectful tweet, and I direct him to apologise immediately,” he wrote.

Zaki, meanwhile, took to social media again later to deny being a political secretary to any aide of the prime minister.

Yesterday, Abdul Hadi’s health was reported to have deteriorated, and he is now being treated in the hospital.

The son of the PAS President, Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, informed this on Facebook yesterday.

“We request prayers for the recovery of our respected father,” he said.

“His health has slightly deteriorated before Aidiladha, and he is currently receiving further treatment and monitoring by the doctors at the hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, in a statement, expressed support for Anwar in asking Zaki to apologise for his post.

“In my close to six decades in Malaysian politics, I had never harboured the hope that my political opponents would die.”

He wished Hadi, who is receiving hospital treatment, a swift recovery.

“I also hope Hadi would mend his ways to stop spreading lies, falsehoods, fake news, and hate speech, which could only polarise race and religious relations in Malaysia and is not helpful to ensuring the fulfilment of the wishes of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and various sultans to see political stability and greater national unity in the country,” he stressed.

Lim, a former parliamentary opposition leader, said that Hadi had alleged that he was “anti-Malay, anti-Islam, a communist, and promoting Islamophobia”.

He called the allegations baseless and wicked ones, which Hadi has not been able to substantiate despite being repeatedly challenged to do so.

“I invite Hadi to join me in ensuring that there will be clean and honest politics in Malaysia and that the six state polls in Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu will be witnesses to such clean and healthy politics,” Lim said. – The Vibes, July 2, 2023
