PETALING JAYA – It is not often that a policewoman upstages a beauty pageant, but this happened when much talked about cop Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar turned up at the inaugural Mrs Earth Malaysia event at a prime hotel here.
Escorted by her lawyer M. Manoharan, heads turned as she walked into the property, although the officer, who wore an evening dress, went unrecognised initially.
Many guests then came forward to request selfies and photographs with the officer, who is currently suspended over charges of intimidation and insulting the modesty of two men.
Sheila, popularly known as “Inspector Sheila”, who is attached with the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters, was, on most counts, obliging to such photo requests.
She also appeared cordial when some guests gathered the courage to ask her about her case.
The 35-year-old told The Vibes that she remains adamant that she did no wrong and will fight her case through the legal system. She also expressed hope that justice can be served.
Manoharan, a former Selangor state assemblyman, said that his client remains headstrong that she is innocent of the charges.
“It is unfortunate that she is embroiled in such a case,” he said when accosted during the event at the Royale Chulan Damansara last Sunday.
Senior counsel S. Raveentharan, who is assisting in the case, said he hopes there will not be a trial by media over the case, saying that the due process needs to be respected.

Meanwhile, a TikTok video clip showing Sheila taking photographs with a guest at another event garnered a huge number of views and comments.

Sheila herself commented in good humour: “Oh my God...I’ve gotten into TikTok now.”
It ignited a flurry of responses, mostly positive and in praise of her.
Many remarked that though she appeared to be strict while on duty and in uniform, she had a soft and alluring side as well.
Yaluma said: “I think the bad thing (is) about to bring you good things and (help you) end up in new beginnings. Now people are started (sic) to celebrate you Ms Sheila.”
Moon Dev added: “Inspector Sheila, God bless you... Keep rocking... We are always there for you.”
Seemingly referring to Sheila’s earlier social media posting, in which she expressed a wish to find a suitable spouse, ronny84ronlee wrote: “May you meet your true love.”
Muthuveeranveeram was more candid but bashful when he said: “Puan Sheila, you are very beautiful.”
Sheila was charged with intimidating an elderly woman and a lower rank police officer after she was captured on social media actively engaged in a verbal feud.
The case was also actively debated online, with many netizens flooding the news with comments.
Sheila was charged in court last week at two separate magistrates’ courts, pleading not guilty to three charges before both magistrates.
She pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Chai Guan Hock to two charges and one charge before Magistrate Nur Hafizah Rajuni.
The pageant was won by Than Kuyil Thayalan of Selangor, while second place went to Puneedha Raja Ram Neetha, a Penangite. The third place was awarded to Johor’s Shakila Saiful. – The Vibes, July 4, 2023
