KOTA KINABALU – Workers found a human fetus stuck to the grill trap of a septic tank they were about to clean at an apartment complex here, and police are now appealing to the public to come forward with information.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the fetus, believed to be male, was found by the cleaners at the Inanam City Apartment yesterday morning.

“Around 9.45am, the Inanam police station received a report from a member of the public regarding the discovery of the fetus inside the septic tank.

“Earlier, at approximately 9.30am, workers cleaning the tank spotted an object inside the trap, initially mistaking it for a toy doll. However, upon raising the trap slightly, it became evident that the object was – in fact – a human fetus,” Zaidi said in a statement.

The workers informed their supervisor who then contacted the police.

The workers also ensure that the fetus was not carried away by the wastewater flowing past the trap.

Zaidi added that the fetus, about 18cm in length, still had an umbilical cord attached to it.

Police urge anyone with information about the case to contact Inspector Hatikah Ahmad at 016-8337243.

The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code which pertains to secretly disposing of the dead body of a child and intentionally concealing its birth. The penalty upon conviction is imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both. – The Vibes, July 18, 2023
