KUALA LUMPUR – From drone-related arrest to a housewife’s failed attempt at registering, today’s nomination day process in six states was relatively calm and smooth except for a few incidents.

In Pendang, police arrested a man on suspicion of attempting to fly a drone over the heads of party supporters during the nomination process this morning.

Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh said the 24-year-old man was nabbed by an Ops Cantas Team. The drone was also seized.

Meanwhile, in Kelantan, chaos erupted a the nomination centre for the Kota Lama state seat in Kota Baru when one candidate was rejected.

Tan Lay Tho, a 63-year-old housewife wanted to contest as an independent candidate but she did not fulfil the criteria as her proposer was her husband who is a voter in a different state constituency (Bunut Payung).

After her papers were rejected, Tan who appeared unhappy was seen berating the Election Commission’s (EC) returning officer.

She demanded her RM5,000 deposit and refused to leave the location until the amount was returned.

After the returning officer returned her RM5,000, Tan left the premises.

Kota Lama will see a four-cornered fight between Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary (independent), Dr Hafidzah Mustakim (Pakatan Harapan), Datuk Zamri Ismail (PAS) and Andy Tan (Parti Rakyat Malaysia). – The Vibes, July 29, 2023
