KUALA LUMPUR – Loyalists of jailed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will not sabotage Barisan Nasional (BN) by supporting Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates in the August 12 state elections, BN deputy chief Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said.

He dismissed such claims, adding that if there were any unhappy pro-Najib members within Umno who felt that way, they were probably “just a small group’.

“Not the majority of them,” he was quoted saying by Free Malaysia Today after his nomination as candidate for the Rantau seat. Mohamad will be defending the seat he has held for four terms.

He also said that Najib’s children had issued statements to state their support for BN and its federal government ally Pakatan Harapan in the state polls.

“That is enough for me to know the real situation,” he said.

Najib began his 12-year sentence for corruption in the SRC International case in August last year.

His incarceration after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence led to unhappiness in some factions within Umno against its president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for allegedly not doing enough to free him. – The Vibes, July 29, 2023
