KUALA LUMPUR – A former aide to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today said the renovation and repair works at Seri Perdana during his (Muhyiddin) administration were justified.

Datuk Marzuki Mohamad in a Facebook post said he was well aware as he was involved in the renovation process at the time.

The former chief private secretary to Muhyiddin said Seri Perdana was massive and covered some 56,000sqft.

He said the main issue was the leaking roof, which in turn damaged the walls, ceiling and flooring.

“Wiring works also had to be done,” he said, adding that there were also problems with the furniture inventory at Seri Perdana.

This, he said arose after Datuk Seri Najib Razak claimed some of the furniture was his and he wanted it back.

After Najib was ousted, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad did not move in and the property was sort of abandoned.

“It may have looked good from the outside, but it was in poor condition inside,” he said.

Marzuki came to Muhyiddin’s defence following a speech by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently where he hit out at Muhyiddin for spending RM38 million on repairs for Seri Perdana.

Anwar claimed that Muhyiddin had his priorities distorted and had focused on repairing Seri Perdana rather than helping the rakyat. – The Vibes, July 31, 2023
