KLANG – In the midst of the hectic election campaign season, tragedy struck just before a scheduled walkabout by Sentosa candidate Gunaraj George at a morning market here today, leaving a sombre mood among voters and campaigners alike.

Just minutes before his arrival at the market in Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2, a fatal accident occurred on the main road adjacent to the market, claiming the life of an elderly person.

The morning market, usually filled with vendors selling fresh produce and vibrant chatter, quickly turned into a scene of shock and despair. Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moments when a motorcycle collided with the elderly person, who was crossing the road.

As police and an ambulance rushed to the accident site, Gunaraj’s team was alerted about the tragic incident. With a heavy heart, he suspended the walkabout and instead made his way to the scene to offer his condolences to the victim’s family and show his support to the community during this difficult time.

With the campaigning taking a backseat, Gunaraj consoled the victim’s family and offered words of comfort.

Speaking briefly to the media at the accident site, he emphasised the importance of road safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

He also pledged to work tirelessly to address road safety issues in the constituency if elected.

Working with officers from Klang Municipal Council, who also arrived at the scene, he said speed humps will be placed at the site to slow down traffic and help prevent any mishaps. – The Vibes, August 2, 2023
