ALOR STAR – The family of a female student who went viral on social media after Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor gently “swatted” her head with some folded pieces of paper has asked the public not to make an issue over the matter.

TikTok user MCSyalwa, who is believed to be the mother of the student, said the family did not have an issue with the matter.

“It is enough. Just live in harmony and don’t make a big deal about it.

“We, the parents and the child concerned have no issues about it. The MB is good... he met us though he was tired after cycling,” she said on TikTok yesterday following the incident last Saturday.

She also said Sanusi did not need to apologise and their daughter was just fine.

“She is not hurt at all. We were just joking with each other. No need to make an issue about it,” she said.

Earlier, several social media users criticised Sanusi for swatting the young woman’s head with some folded paper after she approached him for aid on August 19.

Wanita PKR central communications director Noraini Nordin called on Sanusi to apologise for his behaviour, saying that the act was wrong, impolite and disrespectful to the dignity of women.

“To defend the dignity of women, we at Wanita PKR urge all women in the country to voice out their objections to Sanusi’s actions,” she said.

Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz also echoed Noraini’s comments, calling Sanusi’s antics rude.

She said Sanusi should watch his manners when he makes jokes with the public and not play it down as banter.

Sanusi had responded, saying he was merely joking with the young female student when he chided her for seeking assistance from him at the eleventh hour.
