KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said policies and initiatives which he will announce on Monday when presenting the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review (12MP MTR) in the Dewan Rakyat were framed not only based on the thoughts of ministries.
The prime minister said these policies and initiatives were also guided by the concerns, needs and priorities of the people, business community and all states.
“I am confident that the 12MP MTR can drive a more balanced and stable growth for Malaysia in the future,” he said in a Facebook post last night.
He said the 12MP MTR was yet another action by the government to realise the agenda of the Madani economy advocated by him.
It was a significant document of wisdom in determining the direction of the country’s socioeconomic growth which was balanced in thinking, spiritual and material terms based on Madani values, he added.
Earlier yesterday, the prime minister received the 12MP MTR document from Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli.
The Economy Ministry has explained that the mid-term review is important as it measures how far targets have been achieved for 2021-2022 and Malaysia’s direction for 2023-2025 towards becoming a sustainable, peaceful and high-income nation.
It also takes into account the domestic challenges, global trends and the unity government’s priorities.
The ministry's Deputy Secretary-General (Macro) Luqman Ahmad was quoted by Bernama as saying that Malaysia achieved significant growth, with an average annual gross domestic product growth rate of 5.9% in 2021-2022.
This growth rate exceeded the target set in the 12MP, driven by increased labour activities and private sector growth, he said.
During the 12MP mid-term review, all significant economic, social, and environmental sectors will be assessed, he said.
This includes growth, delivery of public services, cost of living, the ageing population, poverty, the labour market, and the implementation of sustainable goals such as environmental, social, and governance principles, Luqman noted.
“The mid-term review will also give specific emphasis to strengthen the country fiscally, increase government revenue and restructure Malaysia’s economy to reduce living costs and expand the economy,” he added. – The Vibes, September 9, 2023
