KUCHING - A village headman from a longhouse community in Baloi, Skrang was killed by a crocodile this morning.

Villagers and firemen are now sweeping a river near the longhouse to locate Chaong Baringai's body.

According to reports in Borneo Post, the incident occurred at about 10.30 am today.

The victim's wife said her 67-year-old husband was filling water into his knapsack sprayer at the riverbank when the crocodile lunged out of the water and pulled him in.

"A team from the Betong Fire and Rescue station are heading the search operations," said the department.

Reports said the victim's body could be seen in the crocodile's mouth as it swam away, believed to be heading to its nest some 200 metres upstream.

Firemen who arrived at the scene at about 11.30 am had to walk about 3 km to where the attack took place.

About 31 individuals in eight boats are involved in the search operations along the river. - The Vibes, October 14, 2023
