PETALING JAYA – A 16-month-old baby girl died after she was found unconscious in a car at a public university in Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu.

Initial investigations by police, who were informed about 4.30pm yesterday, revealed that the victim’s father had forgotten to send the baby to the daycare centre at the university campus before going to work at the same university.

Kuala Terengganu police chief Abdul Rahim Md Din said police were informed by medical staff at the university’s health centre that the baby had died.

“Police rushed to the scene as soon as we received the report and found that the baby had already died.

“The body was sent to the Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah for a post-mortem.

“He said police were still investigating and would record a statement from those concerned under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

He also urged the public not to speculate on the incident and let police investigate.

This is the second such incident this month.

Earlier this month, an 8-month-old baby girl died after she was left in a car parked at the  Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital (HCTM) in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

The girl was mistakenly left in the vehicle when her mother, a doctor at the hospital, went to work thinking that she had already sent the child to a daycare centre. – The Vibes, October 25, 2023
