THE Melaka State Legislative Assembly is expected to be dissolved today, paving the way for the state election.
Sources revealed that the dissolution letter has already been signed, with the announcement expected this afternoon.
A press conference is expected to be held at Seri Negeri after the state government meeting and post-Exco meeting chaired by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
All Barisan Nasional assemblymen are understood to have received invitations yesterday to attend the meeting at Seri Negeri at 2.30 pm today.
The development comes after Ab Rauf had repeatedly hinted that the dissolution was drawing closer.
He had previously referred to the state having only two Fridays left before the Melaka birthday celebrations, in an apparent indication of when the assembly could be dissolved.
The 15th Melaka assembly is currently due to complete its term on December 27, 2026, unless it is dissolved earlier.
All eyes are now on Seri Negeri for the official announcement, which would set in motion the process leading to the Melaka state election. – September 22, 2026
