IN the coming state election, the people of Selangor face a critical decision that will shape the future of their state and lives. We need to approach this election with a sense of responsibility, understanding the weight of our choices and the need to make a wise decision.

In deciding on who to vote for, it is essential for voters to consider the values and principles that will guide Selangor towards progress and unity, via the one and only path, which is the unity government.

It must be pointed out that stability through the unity government (Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional) is crucial and I must reiterate that the alternative hinges on the dangers of racist and divisive politics.

We have seen enough of such divisive politics, and it is time for the nation to heal and build upon the visions laid down by our nation’s founding fathers.

The unity government has been championing the values of inclusivity over the last eight months, and it recognises and celebrates the diversity that exists within Selangor and Malaysia.

PH-BN understands that the state’s strength lies in its multicultural fabric, where Malays, Chinese, Indians, and various ethnic groups live harmoniously.

By embracing a politics of unity and respect, PH-BN aims to foster an inclusive society where every individual’s rights and contributions are acknowledged and valued.

We should not be viewing each other with suspicions, contempt or hatred, and any attempt to do so should be rejected.

Selangor is the economic powerhouse of Malaysia and it requires stable governance to drive economic growth and prosperity for the whole nation. In its three terms governing the state, Pakatan Harapan has a proven track record of implementing progressive economic policies, focusing on sustainable development, investment in infrastructure, and job creation.

With stability, PH and BN can together continue their efforts to attract foreign investments, promote entrepreneurship, and uplift the standard of living for all in the state.

With Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari leading the nation and state respectively, we need to give them the chance to continue their leadership as they have a clear vision for the future.

We need to provide the stability needed to complete crucial reforms and propel our state and country forward.

Our prime minister is a reform advocate and has long championed issues of justice, democracy, and good governance. His leadership has brought a fresh perspective and renewed momentum to national-level reforms.

This will also ensure that the vision and policies already set in motion by the unity government can be fully realised, benefiting both Selangor and the nation as a whole.

Accountability and good governance are one of the pillars of the unity government and this agenda ensures transparency, fights corruption, and promotes integrity in public office.

The unity government is also committed to upholding democratic principles and safeguarding the rights and freedoms of everyone. This is in contrast to the divisive politics propagated by others as it raises concerns about the erosion of democratic institutions and processes.

The people of Selangor must defend the democratic fabric of their state, ensuring that decisions are made through open dialogue, consensus-building, and inclusiveness.

The people of Selangor need to reject negative campaigning and choose a path towards a united society where diversity is celebrated and differences are seen as strengths rather than obstacles.

We also need a leadership that fosters peace, understanding, and social harmony. The unity government has been consistently advocating for a society where different ethnic and religious communities coexist peacefully, respecting each other’s beliefs and traditions.

By retaining PH-BN, the people of Selangor will see a government that actively promotes inter-ethnic dialogue, tolerance, and unity.

In a time when divisive politics and racial tensions can threaten social cohesion, it is crucial to choose a leadership that prioritises peace and harmony.

The decisions we make at the ballot box will shape the future of our state, nation and have a lasting impact on our lives, at least for the next five years. – The Vibes, July 18, 2023
