MEN’s doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani clinched the 2024 Japan Open men's doubles title by defeating the world No. 3 and reigning world champions, South Koreans Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae, in straight games at the Yokohama Arena today.

The Malaysians triumphed with a score of 21-19, 21-15 in just 43 minutes.

Sze Fei and Izzuddin secured the US$62,900 (RM275,226) prize at the Badminton World Tour Super 750 Series, the largest win of their careers so far.

Previously, the duo had won four titles at the Badminton World Tour Super 100 and 300 Series, including the German Open (2022) and the US Open, Kaohsiung Masters, and Abu Dhabi Masters (all in 2023).

With today’s victory, the world No. 12 pair become the fourth Malaysian pair to win the Japan Open men’s doubles title.

Their success comes as the Badminton Association of Malaysia had recently allowed Sze Fei and Izzuddin to turn professional. – August 25, 2024.
