THE Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) has postponed its Annual General Meeting which was earlier scheduled for April 27 to May 25.
In a Notice of Postponement, its president Mohammed Iqbal Ali Kassim Ali said this was done in pursuant to Clause 15.4(i) of the MCA's Constitution and based on the advice of the Sports Commissioner.
"All matters related to the meeting agenda, as previously communicated in the earlier notice dated February 3 shall remain unchanged and valid," he said.
He noted that a matter of significant concern had recently arisen following the filing of a police report involving multiple parties, including individuals within the MCA, its state affiliate members, and other stakeholders.
In response, Iqbal said legal counsel has been engaged and is currently acting to initiate relevant legal proceedings.
"These actions will be taken in full accordance with the MCA Constitution, the Sports Development Act 1997, and all other applicable laws of Malaysia.
"This postponement has been made to allow for these arising internal matters to be resolved to ensure the meeting is conducted with full transparency, compliance, and in the best interests of Malaysian cricket," he said.
As a gesture of good faith and in recognition of the inconvenience caused, all costs incurred by parties involved in the general meeting, in relation to travel and accommodation for the originally scheduled AGM will be reimbursed accordingly by the MCA.
It was reported earlier that the MCA had sent an urgent request to the Sports Commissioner to intervene following concerns over membership and governance within the association.
Iqbal said the AGM on April 27, 2025, was facing a crisis of credibility and constitutional imbalance due to multiple unresolved grievances and questionable conduct by several affiliated members.
"As the custodian of integrity and lawful conduct in Malaysian sport, and pursuant to the regulatory powers vested in your esteemed office under the Sports Development Act 1997 (Act 576), I respectfully but firmly urge for immediate intervention in light of escalating concerns," he had said in the letter sighted by The Vibes.
It was also learnt that Iqbal was nominated to defend his president's post but had decided not to accept it.
He had also said that he would not be taking up any position in the new Exco and would instead focus on rebuilding the MCA's reputation and credibility.
Iqbal wants to ensure there are no allegations of a personal agenda and wants to focus on resolving all issues before the new president and Exco take over the MCA. - April 25, 2025
