THE entire Executive Committee of the Football Association of Malaysia has tendered its collective and voluntary resignation with immediate effect, marking an unprecedented move aimed at preserving the integrity and credibility of the national football body.
Acting FAM President Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi said the unanimous decision was taken without personal interest and in full recognition of organisational responsibility, amid a situation that has drawn significant public attention. He said the move was grounded in principles of good governance and accountability.
“The Executive Committee takes collective responsibility to act in order to protect the integrity of FAM,” he said.
Mohd Yusoff added that the decision was intended to safeguard the association’s reputation, reduce the risk of further damage to Malaysian football and provide space for international football authorities to independently assess governance matters.
“This resignation is intended to preserve FAM’s reputation and reduce the risk of more serious repercussions that could affect Malaysian football, while allowing the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) the appropriate space to freely assess and examine matters related to FAM’s governance,” he said.
He was speaking after chairing the Fifth Special Executive Committee Meeting for the 2025–2029 term at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya on Wednesday.
Mohd Yusoff said the step was necessary to ensure that any reforms could be implemented without the burden of negative perceptions, and to restore confidence among supporters, partners and the wider football community.
Although the Executive Committee for the 2025–2029 term had served only 11 months of its four-year mandate, he said members were prepared to relinquish their positions in the national interest. “This shows that service to Malaysian football takes precedence over the length of one’s term of office,” he said.
He stressed that institutional credibility remains critical to the stability, sustainability and long-term development of football in Malaysia.
“Maintaining the credibility of the institution is vital for the stability, sustainability and future development of the nation’s football,” he said. - January 28, 2026
