My first experience of Gerry’s ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ (YNWA) anthem was in 1994 at Anfield and right away, I understood why Shanks chose this song to be part of the evolution of the Liverpool Football Club (LFC).

It’s a song that reflects ‘belief’: that when you come together as a team, as a family, you are able to overcome adversity by becoming the best possible version of what you can be.

The song has touched the heart of every football fan and will remain as the best anthem in the modern football era.

During LFC’s darkest hours, the anthem was a source of inspiration that lifted our spirits so that we could face the impossible task ahead. So, walk on, Gerry, with hope in your heart as ‘you’ll never walk alone’.

My heartfelt appreciation to Gerry for being part of LFC history.

Goodbye, Gerry, for within our hearts, you will never walk alone. ─ The Vibes, 5 December, 2020
