PETALING JAYA – PJ City unexpectedly pulls off an upset as they held league leaders JDT 2-2 at the Petaling Jaya Stadium, thus delaying their seventh consecutive Super League title celebrations.

JDT took the lead through Safawi Rasid in the 35th minute, but they were punished for poor defending by PJ City just two minutes later through Christie Jayaseelan.

JDT trailing for the first time this season as PJ City midfielder K. Gurusamy converted a penalty in the 45th minute after JDT goalkeeper Mohd Farizal Marlias brought down striker Washington Brandao in the penalty area.

But seconds before the first half ended, the referee awarded a penalty to JDT after Safawi was fouled in the penalty area; with Argentine import, Gonzalo Cabrera scoring,  the equalizer to make it 2-2.

Despite having several chances in the second half, JDT failed to capitalize on the opportunity presented to them as PJ City take home a precious point against the defending champions.

Perak rises to the second place after thrashing Felda United FC 5-1 at home, as Shahrel Fikri Md. Fauzi breaks the record of scoring four goals in one match, becoming the first Malaysian footballer to do so since Abdul Hadi Yahya who also scored four against Felda back in Super League 2011.

JDT remains top of the Super League with 23 points after nine matches with two games remaining, followed by Perak (17 points) and Kedah (16 points) but the positions may change when Pahang plays Kedah at the Darul Makmur Stadium, tonight.

PDRM confirmed relegation to the Premier League next season after losing 4-0 by Terengganu FC at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Terengganu with Faris Ramli and Lee Tuck both scored a brace.

In the second division, Kuala Lumpur promoted to the top-flight next season after beating Selangor 2 with 5-4 thriller at home, thus becoming the second team to be promoted to the Super League after Penang.

Other matches in the second division include Kuching FA defeated Negeri Sembilan 4-2, while Kelantan recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over Sarawak United in Kota Bharu. – Football Tribe, September 26, 2020
