KUALA LUMPUR - The National Sports Council (NSC) is ready to conduct quarantine-based training in accordance with stricter standard operating procedure (SOP), including the scheduling of training times, following the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in six states effective tomorrow.
NSC Athletes Division director Jefri Ngadirin said they would adopt the training SOP like the one used for the Road to Tokyo (RTT) quarantine-based training programme that was implemented in June last year before it was eased in October.
“For example, the training sessions cannot involve more than 10 people at any one time. There should also be no close contact while physical distancing must be adopted. We have informed the coaches that if there are more than 10 athletes, they must carry out schedule-based training sessions.
“Only coaches and athletes staying at the hostels will be allowed to carry out quarantine-based training. Those who opt to stay away from the hostels must train on their own via online,” he told Bernama.
The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) said yesterday that full-time centralised training centres, where national athletes are currently undergoing training, at several venues around the Klang Valley and in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, would continue using the quarantine-based approach.
The affected training venues are the NSC Complex in Bukit Jalil; NSC Complex in Taman Keramat; Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara; Paralympic Centre of Excellence in Kampung Pandan; and National Velodrome in Nilai.
Jefri said athletes involved in the Sepak Takraw League (STL) would report for duty at Bukit Jalil today, with every one of them having to undergo a COVID-19 swab test.
The NSC had previously confirmed that seven athletes and six officials tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to training camp following the Christmas and New Year holidays on Jan 3. – Bernama, January 12, 2021
