KUANTAN – Kedah is officially out of the title race after suffering from a shocking 2-1 defeat to Pahang at the Darul Makmur Stadium, Kuantan last night.

The Red Eagles took the lead through a counter-attack that led to the goal scored by striker Kipre Tchetche in the 15th minute, but the Elephants equalized through Adam Reed’s powerful shot five minutes before half time.

Only a few seconds after the second half started, Pahang stunned Kedah with a brilliant attack as Nik Sharif Haseefy breaks through the opposition defence before rounding off with a goal 46th minute, as they hold the 2-1 scoreline until the final whistle.

This means Kedah remains in third place with 16 points with two matches to go, while JDT, who is top of the league with 23 points only needs a draw to win their seventh league title in a row.

Second-place Perak has a slim chance to win the title after collecting 17 points as they need to win two remaining matches and must score at least 15 goals, provided that JDT does not score a single goal and lose their remaining two matches.

Meanwhile, Selangor begins a new life under interim head coach Michael Feichtenbeiner but only tied 3-3 against UiTM FC at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam.

Only PDRM has confirmed relegation, with PJ City, Felda United and Sabah still battling for Super League survival.

In the second division, Penang increased their gap at the top of the table with 23 points after claiming a 2-1 victory over UKM FC at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium.

They were trailing from behind after UKM FC took the lead through striker Akanni-Sunday in the 17th minute, but the Panthers staged a comeback through Casagrande’s goal in the 48th minute and a penalty kick scored by Endrick Dos Santos in the 66th minute.

Penang leads the standings with 23 points, followed by Kuala Lumpur (20), JDT II (15), and Terengganu FC II (13).

Penang and Kuala Lumpur have confirmed promotion to the Super League next season, but there will be no relegation due to the cancellation of the 2020 season for Liga M3, the third division. – Football Tribe, September 27, 2020
