KUCHING – Two first-half goals were enough for Sarawak United to edge Kelantan United 2-1 in their Premier League match at the State Stadium in Petra Jaya today.
Coach E. Elavarasan’s men took just seven minutes to go one-up when former national striker Mohd Amri Yahyah’s shot from outside the box sailed past Kelantan United goalkeeper Muhamad Syazwan Yusoff.
Eleven minutes later the homesters went 2-0 ahead, thanks to a header by their Liberian import Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh.
Undeterred, Kelantan United fought back in the second half and were awarded a penalty at the 78th minute by referee Ahmad Zuhaidi Dzulkifli after the visitors’ Gambian striker Alfusainey Gassama was fouled by Sarawak United’s S. Chanturu.
Gassama picked himself up before coolly slotting the ball past Sarawak United goalkeeper Shaiful Wazizi Mohammad from the spot.
The win allowed Sarawak United to move up from 11th to ninth spot in the 12-team standings with eight points from eight matches while Kelantan United stays sixth with nine points. – Bernama, September 19, 2020
