KUALA LUMPUR - Reigning champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) today completed the permanent signing of their on-loan forward Bergson da Silva, which will see the Brazilian stay at the club at least until the end of the 2021 season.
JDT sporting director Martin Prest announced this in a statement uploaded on the team's official Facebook page, Johor Southern Tigers, but did not disclose the details of the agreement between the two parties.
Bergson, 30, joined on loan from Brazilian club Fortaleza earlier this season in March and has netted 11 goals in 11 Super League appearances thus far, with the remaining nine league games awaiting.
It also means Da Silva, a regular main striker throughout the season, now carries an important responsibility in JDT's attack ahead of the 2021 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League campaign next month.
Earlier, the Southern Tigers also announced the signing of Australian Shane Lowry on a free transfer from Qatar Stars League's Al-Ahli.
According to the statement, Lowry, 31, has played for a host of English clubs such as Leeds United, Sheffield United, Milwall and Leyton Orient, besides Australian side Perth Glory in the A-League.
JDT, who currently top the Super League with 30 points after 13 games, are aiming for their eighth consecutive title.
The Southern Tigers, led by head coach Benjamin Mora, are set to face Nagoya Grampus of Japan, Pohang Steelers (South Korea) and Ratchaburi FC (Thailand) in Group G of the AFC Champions League, scheduled to be held in Thailand from June 22 until July 7. - Bernama. May 21, 2021
