JOHOR - Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) is one step closer of winning their seventh successive Super League title after trashing Selangor 6-1 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor last night.

The home side however scored the first goal late in the first half through a brilliant free-kick from Safawi Rasid to give JDT a 1-0 lead.

Selangor were left exposed in the second half as defensive midfielder Safuwan Baharudin substituted due to injury as JDT scored five more goals through Safawi (49th minute), Diogo Luis Santo (64th), Gonzalo Cabrera (67th) and youngster Muhammad Ramadhan Saifullah Usman (72nd, 75th).

Selangor’s consolation goal came in the 81st minute through Rufino Segovia.

JDT top the Super League standings with 22 points after eight matches, with only three games remaining.

Meanwhile, UiTM FC stunned Terengganu 2-1 at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam.

Victor Nirennold was the hero for UiTM FC when he slotted home the winning goal in the 59th minute after teammate Arif Anwar’s fourth-minute opening goal was cancelled out by Terengganu skipper Lee Andrew Tuck in the 38th minute.

UiTM FC currently in third place with 13 points, the same amount of points collected by Kedah who will meet Sabah tomorrow. Football Tribe September 20, 2020.
